In the RivalsHigh game of the week, 44th ranked Chandler (Ariz.) Hamilton edged 77th ranked Phoenix (Ariz.) Brophy College Prep 24-21 in a game played at Phoenix College. Hamilton, powered by a strong rushing attack, took a 21-0 lead into halftime only to see Brophy come roaring back in the second half to tie the game at 21 with 10:35 to play in the fourth quarter. Senior Yannick Mets kicked a 41-yard field goal with 3:09 seconds remaining in the fourth to give Hamilton a 24-21 lead. Following a personal foul penalty on the Hamilton sideline, Brophy started out what would be its final drive in excellent field position at its own 45 yard line. Hamilton defensive back Mike Monroe ended that drive, however, when he intercepted a pass from Brophy quarterback Chase Knox. Hamilton, behind strong running from senior Zach Bauman, was able to control the clock and the game ended with a 24-21 victory. Senior quarterback Travis Dean started the scoring for the Huskies with a 35-yard touchdown run with 7:02 to go in the first quarter. In the second quarter Dean scored again, this time from one yard out to make the score 14-0 with 8:40 remaining Brophy fumbled a punt, setting up Hamilton in excellent field position with 5:13 remaining in the half. The Huskies quickly capitalized with Bauman scoring from nine yards out to make it 21-0 with 4:38 to go. Brophy's defense tighted in the third quarter and the offense, which failed to move the ball into Hamilton territory in the first half, got on the board with 5:35 seconds remaining in the quarter when Knox found senior A.J. Steimel in the endzone for a 7-yard touch pass. Brophy took advantage of a Hamilton turnover and senior Max Leonesio scored from two yards out to close the gap to 21-14 with 10:48 to go in the fourth quarter. On the first play from scrimmage on Hamilton's next drive, senior Alex Garoutte intercepted a pass from Kyren Poe and ran it back for a 23-yard touchdown. Garoutte kicked the extra point to bring the game to a 21-21 tie with 10:35 remaining. The rushing attack of the Huskies proved too potent for Brophy. Bauman, along with senior running back Michael Allen were too much for the Broncos' defense. Hamilton, now 8-0, hosts Red Mountain next week. Brophy falls to 7-2 and will travel to face Desert Vista next week.
