November 1, 2012Senior combo guard Alexa Jacobs from Glendale (Ariz.) Mountain Ridge High School is one of top players in Arizona that is still available in the 2013 class.
Jacobs has recently seen her recruitment heat up after a successful summer playing for coach Mike O'Guinn and the Arizona Rebels club. The star guard has heard from schools such as UCCS, Iona, Cal State-San Bernardino, Alaska Anchorage, Chico State and Hawaii-Hilo.
The 5-foot-8 Jacobs is a dynamic lead guard that is an exceptional ball handler and playmaker. She makes solid decisions with the basketball and she does a solid job of keeping her teammates involved in the offense in both team or showcase play. Due to her ability to penetrate and dish or finish in the pain, Jacobs consistently keeps the pressure on opposing defenses.
Jacobs has always been regarded as one of the top players in her class and her many accolades is a testament of her performance on the court. She has been a varsity starter since entering high school and Jacobs was the runner up to the All Region Player-of-the-Year on multiple occasions.
Jacobs currently holds the assist record for the Mountain Lions and is 400 points away from breaking the all time scoring record held by Kari LaPlant, who played at USC from 2007-2011, all this even after missing half a junior year with a broken hand.
Jacobs recently performed in the SWS Senior Showcase where she was one of the top performers at the event. She put in an MVP type performance where she solidified herself as one of the top players still available in front of several college coaches that were in attendance. Jacobs did not take many plays off and her leaderships skills were definitively one of her best assets at the event.
Playing for the Arizona Rebels during her high school years, she has received several all tournament or MVP awards while helping the Rebels be one of the more completive club teams in Arizona. Coach O'Guinn had this to say about the Rebels team caption, "Alexa is a very solid on the ball defender. She has great leadership skills and she gets after it on both ends of the floor. Alexa's three-point shooting needs a little more consistency but she is a very good basketball player and she knows how to score."
The Mountain Ridge Lions finished with a 15-14 record last year but Jacobs believes the team will be much better this year. "We are not that big of a team but we will get after teams. We will play hard and put out a good effort. We will be completive," Jacobs said.
ArizonaVarsity.com will continue to follow Jacobs through her senior year and we will report it here when she decides on where she will play at the next level.
