November 4, 2013I would like to start off by wishing all of you the very best of luck as official practice begins on Monday. There is nothing quite like the sense of excitement that both coaches and players feel this time of year. I know I am very excited to get started as the new Head Men's Basketball Coach at Chandler High School. Chandler High is an award winning school with very high academics, a rich tradition of sports success, a diverse student population, and a tremendous faculty and staff. We have a great group of kids who have been working extremely hard in the off season to get ready for the upcoming high school basketball season. They are quality young men who are very coachable and have a desire to learn. We have spent a lot of time working on the fundamentals, building good habits, and showing them what needs to be done to build a winning culture. Our coaching staff has seen a great deal of progress in a number of areas over the past 6 months.
This past summer we spent time in skills camp Monday through Thursday during the week and playing in weekend tournaments such as the Arizona State Team Camp, the Mesquite Jamborees, and the Best In Basketball Summer Invitational. We also took 9 of our kids up to Flagstaff, Arizona for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes camp. Through the skills camp, summer tournament games and our team building experiences we saw a lot of growth both individually and as a team. I am very excited about the upcoming year here at Chandler as I believe we have a team that will be very competitive on a nightly basis. Although our schedule is tough, we have a combination of players with experience and youth who aren't afraid to step up and take on a challenge. Our team has high expectations of themselves as they look to strive for excellence every day.
We are in the new division I section II. Our schedule is very tough as we play the likes of Red Mountain, Corona del Sol, Gilbert, Basha, Hamilton, Perry, Highland, Mesquite, Desert Ridge, Desert Vista, Mountain Pointe, and Skyline in our section. I feel our kids have put in the time and effort and are ready to take on this challenge. I am excited about the depth of our team. I believe this is definitely one of our strengths. Once we get our football players out, we will probably carry thirteen to fourteen kids this year on our varsity team. As you look down the bench, there isn't a big drop off. A lot of our guys will see significant minutes on a nightly basis. This should allow for us as a team to play at a very high intensity level throughout the entire stretch of a basketball game. We will tip off our season by playing in the Salpointe Thanksgiving Invitational. We will be hosting the Phoenix pool of 8 teams at Chandler High School November 25th-27th. Then all bracket play will be played at Salpointe High School in Tucson on November 29th and 30th. We begin play on Nov.25th playing at 3:30 p.m. vs. Scottsdale Saguaro and at 8:00 p.m. vs. Boulder Creek. I look forward to the Journey!
Again, I want to wish all the coaches, players, parents, and those of you in the basketball community all the best as we embark on yet another exciting season. Please let me know at any time if you have any questions on the Chandler Men's Basketball program or if I can do anything for you. You can find our schedule and other pertinent information about our program online at www.chandlerhighbasketball.com. You can also follow our program on twitter @CHSWolvesHoops. Our Varsity Assistant Coach, Kyle Darr does a great job of maintaining both our team website and team twitter pages. You can also follow me on twitter @CoachNold. Finally, I would like to take this time to thank Jon and Arizona Varsity for the continued support and much deserved recognition you give to our kids playing high school athletics in the state of Arizona. God Bless!
All the Best!
