The Battle for Arizona Avenue has been a one-sided affair over the last decade, with Hamilton defeating geographical rival Chandler in all eleven games of the series. Hamilton made it a perfect 12-0 Friday, defeating Chandler 24-20 in stunning fashion. The Wolves' frenzied late rally -- aided by several Chandler miscues -- culminated with the deciding touchdown coming in the game's final seconds. When the Wolves scored on a 1-yard run by Andrew Muscara to give them a 20-10 lead with 3:49 remaining in the fourth quarter, Jim Ewan's team seemed to have reason to start celebrating. What followed was Chandler's worst nightmare. Senior Jeremy Morris recovered the onsides kick for Chandler, which needed only to run time off the clock with the ball positioned inside Hamilton territory and under two minutes remaining. However, Wolves junior quarterback Brett Hundley ran to the short side of the field on first down, and failed to stay inbounds, which stopped the clock. With just over one minute remaining, the Huskies got the ball back on a Chandler punt and senior quarterback Travis Dean, who struggled for most of the night, redeemed himself in a major way. Dean connected with senior running back Michael Allen and senior running back Zach Bauman on screen passes on the Huskies' final drive, moving their offense 60 yards in five plays. With three seconds remaining on the clock, Dean scrambled to his left and found Kyren Poe in the back of the end zone for what would prove to be the winning touchdown. Hamilton converted the PAT to reach the game's final score 24-20. Chandler was in control for the entire first half. The Wolves dominated the time of possession with an 18:20 to 5:40 advantage over the Huskies. They also had a 36-10 play-from-scrimmage advantage and converted eleven first downs to the Huskies' one. Hundley was the offensive star on the night for the Wolves. He started the scoring off for the Wolves in the first quarter with a 10-yard touchdown run to make it a 6-0 game following a failed PAT. Hundley led the Wolves down field again in the second quarter and found Morris for a 6-yard touchdown pass. After the PAT the Wolves had a 13-0 lead, which they took to halftime. In an unorthodox move sure to be second-guessed, Chandler attempted an onsides kick to start the second half. Hamilton came away with its first score of the game and some much needed momentum. With the score 13-3, the Huskies proceeded to control the battle for third quarter field possession. Then, on the first play of the fourth quarter, Allen scored on a 36 yard run, closing the gap to 13-10 on the converted PAT. Dean, who started the game 2-of-14, completed 9-of-14 on Hamilton's last two possessions. With its escape, Hamilton is now 6-0 and will host Salpointe next week. Chandler falls to 3-3 as they prepare for Red Mountain at home next week.
