Colleges across the nation continue to take notice of the prep talent in Arizona each season. More than 360 players from the Class of 2019 signed with schools to advance their football careers, and receive an education.

This was a very busy week with more than 40 players receiving offers!

Times for all college games are given in terms of Arizona time (MST).

Versatility on both sides of the line has helped Jake Griffin with his recruitment. The 6-6, 265-pound offensive tackle/defensive tackle at Red Mountain received his first three Division I offers within a four-day span last week from South Dakota State, Weber State, and Northern Arizona. Griffin has 20 tackles and three sacks for a Mountain Lion team that is 6-1. Last Friday against Skyline, he helped the RMHS offense pile up 452 yards of balanced offense in a 49-13 victory while playing with passion on both sides of the ball. South Dakota State plays its first road game in more than a month this Saturday as the Jackrabbits, ranked No. 3 in the FCS, head to Ohio to take on Youngstown State. Both teams sport records of 4-1 in this Missouri Valley Football Conference tilt. SDSU is coming off a 28-10 Hobo Day victory over Southern Illinois. Weber State plays its annual Homecoming game in Ogden against Southern Utah (1-5) in the Beehive Bowl. Weber is 3-2 and ranked No. 4 in the FCS. The Wildcats are the highest ranked Big Sky Conference school. Northern Arizona kicker Luis Aguilar has opened the season a perfect 25-for-25 in field goals and extra points. The Nogales alum hit on both of his field goals, including one from 57 yards in a 41-23 win over Northern Colorado last Saturday in Flagstaff. The Lumberjacks (3-3) are off this weekend and are preparing for a tough battle at Weber State on Oct. 19.

Northern Arizona was one of two new offers for Broc Lane last week. The Perry tight end has 20 catches for 229 yards and four touchdowns this season. He also blocks for a Puma run game that averages 173 yards per game. The 6-4, 225-pounder is an excellent student who carries a 3.95 GPA. In last week's game against Chandler, Lane caught five passes for 45 yards. He was limited to just four games as a junior due to injury. The other new offer comes from the Ivy League and the University of Pennsylvania. The Quakers (1-2) will play their final non-conference game at home in historic Franklin Field in Philadelphia against Sacred Heart (Conn.) this Saturday. The Blue Devils come in at 3-2. Last Friday, Penn celebrated 125 years of football at Franklin Field, but lost to Dartmouth, 28-15.

In his second year as the starting quarterback at Desert Vista, Parker Navarro is approaching last year's numbers in half the games. The 6-foot, 190-pound signal caller has 13 touchdown passes and 1,135 yards. As a junior, Navarro finished with 17 TDs and 1,568 yards. He is completing 57 percent of his passes and has just three interceptions. On Saturday, Navarro collected his first Division I offer from Idaho. Dating back to last year, he has thrown a touchdown pass in each of his last 10 games. Idaho (2-4), also a member of the Big Sky, takes to the road to face Portland State (3-3) this Saturday. The Vandals put up a fight agaisnt Weber State last Saturday, falling 41-35. Idaho put up 405 yards against the top defense in the conference.

Keeping it in the FCS, a pair of players earned offers from Drake. The recipients were Daniel Wood and Trey Cartledge. Wood, a running back and linebacker at Highland, is having a productive year on both sides of the ball. The 5-10, 205-pound athlete has rushed for 547 yards and 12 touchdowns while also totaling 33 tackles and three sacks. A disruptive player to opposing offenses, Wood has forced two fumbles, recovered two fumbles, and blocked a punt. Cartledge, a safety at Notre Dame, has 30 tackles for the 7-0 Saints. The 6-foot, 190-pound defensive back was a First Team All-5A Northeast Valley Region selection last year. He brings a combination of speed and instincts for the ball. Drake is 2-3 overall, but 2-0 in the Pioneer Football League. The Bulldogs take that mark to Butler (1-4) for a road game in Indiana. Drake, located in Iowa, is coming off a dominant 35-6 victory over Valparaiso (Ind.). All 35 points came in the second and third quarters.

Another long snapper from the state has found a college home as Cole McCutcheon committed to Army following a visit to West Point over the weekend.

The 6-1, 190-pounder at O'Connor is the top ranked long snapper in the state by Rubio Long Snapping, and comes in at No. 33 nationally. He competed in long snapping camps last spring in Nevada, California, Texas, and right here in Arizona.

McCutcheon was offered by Army last June.

"First and foremost, the reputation," McCutcheon said in a text message stating why he chose to play for the Black Knights and serve in the U.S. Army. "Elite academics, elite leadership, and elite football."

McCutcheon spent Friday touring the campus and facilities and said he "fell in love with the place". Both of his grandfathers served in the military.

In addition to being one of the Eagle captains for the game in Hawaii against Campbell HS earlier this year, McCutcheon sports a 4.78 GPA and is a member of the National Honor Society.

He watched Army go on a fourth-quarter surge on Saturday afternoon at Michie Stadium, but the Black Knights weren't able to overcome the deficit and fell to Tulane, 42-33. One highlight had to be senior safety Ryan Velez, who had a career-high 12 tackles. The Brophy product also recorded his first collegiate sack in the game. Army (3-2) will head to Western Kentucky (3-2) this Saturday.
