The Academic All West Camp brought out some of the top guards in the state. The 2011 group is second to none in terms of talent, accolades and recruitment. The 2012 group starts with arguably the top soph guard in the state. As far as the 2013 class, most of the top frosh guards were in attendance.

Here are the top high school guards that attended the camp that also get it done in the classroom.
Top Junior/Sophs guards at the Academic All West Camp (In alphabetical order):
Demitrius Balark (Kellis, 2012) - A nationally ranked top prospect from the sophomore class. Combo guard with tons of upside. Has seen a good deal of recruitment from high major D1 programs. Good size and appears to still be growing. Very good athlete with a good skill set for the 1 or 2 position.
Micah Behrens (Moon Valley, 2012) - Top shooter in the class of 2012. Scored 50 points in a game this year breaking Richard Jefferson's long standing single game scoring record. Versatile player who will continue to make a name for himself in the upcoming club season.
Sami Bzai (Mesquite, 2012) - Combo guard with good knowledge of the game. Good shooter to the 3-point line and does well in the transition game.
Deion Crockum (Willow Canyon, 2011) - Talented guard that we are expecting have a breakout spring club session. One of the top frosh a couple years back but had an injury his soph club season that set him back a bit. Good size, length and athleticism for the combo position.
Martrye Demarco (Shadow Mountain, 2011) - Highly recruited top 5 player for the class of 2011. Smooth game, good handles and can score in bunches. Deadly behind the arc and can take it to the rack as well.
Talbott Denny (Salpointe, 2012) - One of the top sophs in Tucson. Gets better with every viewing. Good size at 6'4'' and definitely one to continue watching. Versatile player that does a little of everything.
Jason Garretson (Mesquite, 2011) - Lightning quick player that can attack the basket extremely well. Shooting has improved and has excellent handles. Will be a top level guard next year for Mesquite.
Chris Hale (Millennium, 2011) - Versatile and unselfish player. At 6'3'', Hale plays the 1,2,3 position in high school although he is a 2G at the next level. Solid shooter, good slasher and excels in the team environment.
AJ Hess (PCDS, 2012) - First viewing of Hess. Good size combo guard with solid court awareness. Was impressed with his play but need to see more. Potential is there.
Callum Long (Flagstaff High School, 2012) - Top player in the class of 2012 for Northern Arizona. Very good athlete with a solid understanding of the game. Good court awareness and plays with a lot of intensity.
Myles Mayfield (Desert Christian, 2012) - Mayfield has always had potential and now he is starting to really show it on the court. Extremely unselfish player that does the little things to help his team win. Expected to have a break-out spring club season.
Anthony Perri (Boulder Creek, 2012) - Another solid player from Anthem. Good size combo guard at 6'1''. Has a good skill set and his court awareness is a strong point to his game. Could develop into a Ryan Crane type player.
Emery Range (Willow Canyon, 2011) - plays with a lot of intensity and desire at both ends of the court. Good athlete, good shooter to the 3-point line and a top defender.
Tyler Russell (Millennium, 2011) - One of the top players in the class of 2011. This polished PG has established himself as legitimate D1 prospect. Good athlete, solid playmaker and has a good basketball IQ. Creates opportunities for teammates.
Chris Selby (Perry, 2012) - Up and coming 2G with good size at 6'3''. One of the top defenders in the class and some of the things that only coaches notice. Good upside. Should have a solid spring season.
Mike Vogel (Catalina Foothills, 2012) - Player in the mold of top seniors Connor Bailey and Drew Batlin at Catalina Foothills. Solid fundamentals, deadly shooter and extremely unselfish.
Judd Welfringer (Basha, 2011) - Can play the 1,2,3,4 position. Drake commit and former Academic Camp MVP can do it all. Passing and court awareness is what sets him apart from others. Good shooter, defender and he just makes everyone better. Just plain good.
Collin Woods (Horizon, 2011) - Being recruited by several D1 programs. This player can flat out go. As seen in many instances, he can score in bunches. Combines extreme athleticism, great skill set and a desire to win at all cost. Could end up the top player for the class before its all done.
Jared Zoller (Mountain Ridge, 2011) - 6'5'' Shooting Guard that has big time upside. Zoller has always been considered one of the top players for the class of 2011. Due to his size and strength, he creates match up problems for opposing teams. Played very well at the camp in all three games. Shooting, versatility and court awareness are his strengths.
Top Freshmen guards at the Academic All West Camp (In alphabetical order):
Drew Bender (Pinnacle, 2013) - Great size at 6'4''. Solid skill set for a frosh. Versatile player as he already can play several positions on the floor. Started varsity as a frosh.
Avery Brunson (Marcos, 2013) - Strong, physical guard. Gets after it on the defensive end.
Jeremiah Cardenas (Santa Rita, 2013) - Smooth player with sold stroke and good handles. Improves with every viewing. One of the top frosh in Tucson.
Kye de Laveaga (Horizon, 2013) - Fundamentally sound player with a high IQ. Talented player with lots of upside.
Diego Magana (Desert Mountain, 2013) - Good looking shooter from anywhere on the court. Can play the 1 or 2 effectively and has good court awareness. Looking forward to seeing him in the club circuit.
Desmond Ross (Kellis, 2013) - One of the top West Valley PGs who is projected to be around 6'4'' once he finish growing. A pass first PG who looks to get everyone involved.
Lloyd Spece (Catalina Foothills,2013) - Top Tucson PG for his class for some time now. Former Academic Camp MVP (8th/Frosh, 2009) plays with a ton of savvy and is a solid playmaker. Never takes a play off.
Alec Wintering (Sunnyslope,2013) - Basketball IQ is off the charts. Very good court awareness and a very effective ball handler. Tons of experience playing Varsity at Slope and he has been playing 17U since the 8th grade.
