At 23 Coburn takes over at McClintock

One of the youngest and best prospects to coach locally over the past few years has landed a plum job in the East Valley.
Earlier this week 23-year old Jase Coburn was named the new head coach at Tempe (Ariz.) McClintock.

Coburn is no rookie when it comes to basketball and coaching. He played for Mesquite, and then played college ball at Mira Costa College in California for Clete Adelman (Rick Adelman's brother).
Once he finished his college playing days Coburn found himself an assistant job at Corona with mentor Sammy Duane Jr. From there Coburn has spent the last two seasons as an assistant at Phoenix College.
Coburn is also the head coach for the solid club program the Arizona Rage, who is heading down to Tucson today for the upcoming Tucson Cactus Classic tournament at UofA this weekend.
"I'm real excited about it," states Coburn about his new position as the Charger head coach, "I just can't wait to get started."
Coburn grew up in the McClintock neighborhood, only two minutes away from campus, and was looking for an opportunity that would keep him close to home.
"I had an opportunity at another high school, and a few colleges were offering me some opportunities as well," said Coburn.
The McClintock program has long been a hotbed for talent at the 4A level, and Coburn is the kind of coach that will continue that trend.
"Coach (Brian) Fleming has built a great program here, and I want to continue and build on that tradition."
Coburn said he applied for the job a few days after learning that Fleming had accepted the head coaching position at Mountain Pointe after the departure of long-time Pride coach Sam Ballard, who has since accepted a coaching position at Grand Canyon University.
As the coaching carousel continues the Chargers have landed their guy and a new chapter is about to begin in legendary "Doc's Gym".
