Allegheny offers Mountain Ridge offensive guard Kaden Hicks
UPDATED: 8/3/21
Colleges across the nation continue to take notice of the prep talent in Arizona each season. More than 360 players from the Class of 2021 have signed with schools to advance their football careers, and receive an education.
Times for games are given in Arizona time.
St. Olaf is a Division III school in the Midwest (located 45 miles south of Minneapolis). The Oles have offered several players this summer and last Thursday, became the first to extend one to Vincent Burgo. Burgo is a 5-8, 250-pound defensive end at Cactus. The lineman needs to be accounted for because he provides strength up front. After sitting the first three games following a transfer from Mountain Ridge, Burgo had 40 tackles and eight sacks in eight games as the Cobras played in the 4A state championship game. In the classroom, he finished his junior year with straight A's and carries a 3.75 GPA. St. Olaf is looking to get back at it with a 10-game slate after not having a season last year. The Oles will open at home against Central (Iowa) on Sept. 4 in the first meeting between the two programs. St. Olaf is in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) and went 5-5 in 2019.
After receiving his first three offers in a flurry in June, Nick Morrow received another Division I one last Friday. This one came just one state over from UNLV. Colleges like the size (6-8, 255) and athleticism that he shows (can play both defensive end and tight end). Last season, Morrow had 20 tackles and two sacks on defense. On offense, he was mainly used as a blocker for run plays, but also caught two passes. In June, Morrow competed in a camp at Baylor. UNLV will get to welcome fans to Allegiant Stadium this year after having to go fanless in its inaugural season. The Rebels open up at home right next to the world-famous Las Vegas Strip on Thursday, Sept. 2 against Eastern Washington. UNLV went winless last year (0-6).
The next day, UNLV offered another defensive end as Fisher Camac earned his first Division I offer from the Rebels. Camac is a 6-7, 230-pound lineman at Highland. He had 60 tackles and four sacks as the Hawks made it to their first conference championship game. In June, Camac competed at both UNLV and Arizona. At the UA camp, he was the fastest lineman at the event.
In July, Dawson Hubbard took part in a camp at Drake University in Iowa. By the end of last week, the 6-foot, 255-pound defensive lineman at Hamilton had his first offer from the Bulldogs. Last year was Hubbard's first with the Huskies after moving to Arizona from Peoria, Ill. As a sophomore at Richwoods HS, he had 65 tackles, two forced fumbles, and a pair of fumble recoveries. Hamilton made it to the Open Division championship last year and Hubbard is part of a fast and strong D-Line looking for another postseason run. Drake is picked to finish third in the 11-team Pioneer Football League (FCS) this season. The league's head coaches placed the Bulldogs behind Davidson and San Diego. The PFL is the nation's only non-scholarship, football-only conference. The new season gets underway on Thursday, Sept. 2 when Drake hosts West Virginia Wesleyan. On Monday, Hubbard added an offer from another PFL school - Butler. The Bulldogs will kick off their season on Sept. 4 at Illinois State. On Oct. 2, Butler will host Drake in Indianapolis in a battle of Bulldogs. Butler lost all six of its games last spring and will be looking to break a seven-game losing streak as this season begins. In 2019, the Bulldogs finished 3-9.
A pair of Red Mountain Lion linebackers collected offers from Minot State in North Dakota last Friday. Skylar Edmonds and Parker McClure got them from the Beavers. This was the first offer for Edmonds (6-2, 195), who had 48 tackles, two sacks, and two interceptions during the Mountain Lions' seven-game season. In addition to football, he's a baseball player that batted .351 with three homers and 15 RBI in 21 games. McClure (6-0, 220) led RMHS in tackles last year with 73. He will be starting his third year for the Lions. Tailgating on Beaver Boulevard is set to return to Minot State in 2021. The event is open to both students and fans and will be early for the first home game on Sept. 11 because kickoff against Sioux Falls will be at 1 p.m. local time. The Beavers play in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (Div. II) and had its 2020 campaign canceled. In 2019, Minot State finished 3-8.
Greenway offensive guard Zach Bauer has been making the most of his summer by checking out colleges. He has competed in camps or visited Dixie State (Utah), Arizona Christian, Lake Forest (Ill.), Wisconsin-River Falls, and Carroll University in Wisconsin. Last Saturday, he gained an offer from Carroll. Bauer (6-2, 290) helped the Demons rush for 218 yards per game during a 5-3 season in 2020. He also gets it done in the classroom with a stellar 4.3 weighted GPA. Carroll will return to the field after a year-long absence in September at Benedictine (Ill.). The Pioneers lead the all-time series 4-1. Carroll has a new head coach with Mike Budziszewski, who was hired in January of 2020 and is more than ready to finally coach in a game for the Pioneers. In 2019, Carroll, which plays in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (Div. III), finished 2-8.
Luke Johnson is Northwest Christian's leading returning tackler from last season (53 in 2020). The 6-foot, 220-pound linebacker got his first offer last Friday from the College of Idaho. This summer Johnson helped his Crusader team win a 7-on-7 tournament at Arizona Christian and visited Black Hills State University in South Dakota. Another scholar baller, Johnson maintains a 4.31 GPA. College of Idaho is the two-time defending champion of the Frontier Conference (NAIA), but the Yotes are picked to finish 2nd in this year's preseason coaches poll to Eastern Oregon. A couple schools in the conference opted out of a spring season, but C of I played and went 3-1. Fall camp begins the first week of August and the Yotes open on the road at Montana State-Northern on Aug. 28.
Multi-sport athlete Matthew Clark obtained his first offer on Monday from the Air Force Academy. Clark, a 5-11, 170-pound safety, also plays basketball at Mesa Mountain View. Last season, he had 37 tackles and a pair of interceptions. One of those picks was brought back to the house in the finale against Corona del Sol. In June, Clark competed in camps at BYU, Sacramento State, and Colorado. He maintains a perfect 4.0 GPA getting straight A's last spring. And they weren't easy classes. His day started with AP Physics. Air Force was picked to finish 3rd in the Mountain West's Mountain Division in the preseason poll. Last year, the Falcons were 3-3 overall and 2-2 in conference. The AFA will kick off this season at home on Sept. 4 against Lafayette (Pa.).
Allegheny College in Pennsylvania offered many players on Tuesday. Picking up offers from the Gators were: Desert Vista linebacker Frankie Viera, Cactus wide receiver Chris Thomas Jr., Campo Verde wide receiver Jeremy Blassingame, Red Mountain running back Josiah Villanueva, Willow Canyon defensive tackle Josiah Gardner, Peoria cornerback Jeremiah Gossett, Perry linebacker Kolton Cunningham, Mountain Ridge offensive guard Kaden Hicks, Saguaro cornerback Ivan Martin, Brophy safety Josh Minton, and Arizona College Prep wide receiver Bryce Chen. Allegheny, which plays in the North Coast Athletic Conference (Div. III), is looking forward to getting back on the field after not playing last year. The Gators open at home against Thiel (Pa.) on Sept. 4. The Gators finished 4-6 in 2019.
Here's the rest of the offers since last Thursday:
Saguaro running back Javen Jacobs received an offer from Portland State.
Casteel safety Connor Clinton received an offer from Fordham (N.Y.).
Campo Verde offensive guard Hunter Seelye received his first offer from Drake.
Desert Ridge cornerback KJ Miniefield received an offer from Idaho.
Campo Verde safety Noah Borchard received his first offer from St. Olaf.
Notre Dame center Jake Burrow received an offer from Whittier (Calif.).
Coconino cornerback Andy Ruiz received an offer from Wisconsin-River Falls.
Saguaro running back Bryan Bogardus received an offer from Clarke (Iowa).
This list shows four-year college offers received by seniors throughout the state. It's not limited to just 6A and 5A. It will be constantly updated as we approach the Early Signing Period from December 15-17. Those are the first days that high school seniors can sign a letter of intent to agree to attend an institution.
Verbal commitments are shown in bold.

Chandler receiver Quaron Adams commits to Iowa State
UPDATED: 7/28/21
The Iowa State roster, which should contend for a Big 12 title, includes five players from Arizona. On Wednesday, the Cyclones reeled in another one from their Southwest recruiting hot spot.
Three-star all-purpose back Quaron Adams of Chandler High School announced his commitment to ISU on social media. Adams had offers from 11 schools, including Oregon, Arizona, and Arizona State.
Iowa State will use Adams as a receiver, which is mostly what he did for the Wolves last season. The 5-8, 155-pound athlete caught 45 passes for 361 yards during Chandler's perfect 10-0 year which ended with a second straight Open Division Championship (and fifth overall title).
In June, Adams visited both Tucson and Ames, Iowa. He received his scholarship offer from ISU last September, right before the pandemic-delayed 2020 season started.
He first opened up eyes in Arizona with his blazing speed. Adams won the 100-meters at the Division I state meet in 2019 as a freshman, posting a time of 10.49 seconds. In addition to the speed, he brings elusiveness and versatility.
This is the second straight year for one of the Wolves' offensive players to head to Iowa State. Last February, running back Eli Sanders signed with the Cyclones.
Iowa State has a player on the Biletnikoff Watch List in wide receiver Xavier Hutchinson. Last season, Hutchinson was the conference's Newcomer of the Year. The Cyclones started off the calendar year of 2021 with a Fiesta Bowl win over Oregon (34-17) to finish at 9-3. This fall's schedule begins on Sept. 4 with a home game against Northern Iowa.
Out of Northern Arizona's 2021 class, 19 of the 26 signees were from the state. Head Coach Chris Ball and the Lumberjacks are working within the boundaries of State 48 again and got their first in-state commit on Tuesday with O'Connor linebacker Brevin Czosnyka.
Czosnyka is listed at 6-3 and 190 pounds. NAU is recruiting him to play the nickel linebacker spot. That would place him as an underneath defender responsible for defending the perimeter. If the offense has a two-back set, or two receivers to one side, the nickel normally plays a role in stopping the run. It's a position Czosnyka wants to play at the college level.
"The coaches are really good guys," Czosnyka said in a text message. "They care about their players. I also have friends that I used to play with up there playing right now."
Kody Say, a wide receiver at Northern Arizona, played his high school ball at O'Connor (Class of 2020).
Last season, Czosnyka had 84 tackles, two sacks, and two interceptions. One of the picks was returned for a touchdown against Shadow Ridge during a 37-21 road victory.
The Lumberjacks beat out three other Big Sky schools for Czosnyka. He held offers from Eastern Washington, Idaho, and Montana State. He received his offer from NAU in May.and visited the Flagstaff campus a couple weeks ago.
The Big Sky Conference held its three-day kickoff event earlier this week. The Lumberjacks were tabbed to finish 7th in the 13-team league in both the media and coaches polls. Northern Arizona finished 3-2 this past spring during an abbreviated season after the fall slate was postponed. The Jacks open this fall on Thursday, Sept. 2 against Sam Houston (Tex.).
Just a day later, Northern Arizona had another commitment as Desert Vista running back/safety Devon Grubbs announced his commitment.
The 6-foot, 195-pound athlete will be reuniting with his older brother, Tyson, who played in two games for the Lumberjacks last spring.
"I love the location and the coaches really showed me that they prioritized me," Grubbs said in a text message. "I know I'd really feel at home with my brother and former teammates being there."
Grubbs has played on varsity for the Thunder since his freshman year when he rushed for 768 yards and 13 touchdowns in nine games filling in for Tyson, who was out with an injury. The past two years, it's been Devon that has lost time due to injuries. The 2020 season began with him playing through a groin injury early on, and ended with him in a walking boot. In four games, Grubbs was mainly used on defense and excelled. Against Basha, he piled up 19 tackles. Over those four games, he ended up with 52 tackles and two forced fumbles.
He said NAU is recruiting him at the nickel position on defense. Grubbs now heads into his senior year as one of the team's captains under new head coach Ty Wisdom.
