Hastings offers ALA-Ironwood safety Marques Dorsey

UPDATED: 8/7/24

Colleges across the nation continue to take notice of the prep talent in Arizona each season. More than 430 players from the Class of 2024 have signed with schools to advance their football careers, and receive an education.

Game times listed are in Arizona time.

The month of August marks a Dead Period for Division I FBS recruiting. During this time, it is not permissible to make in-person recruiting contacts on or off of college campuses. There is also a break from official and unofficial visits, which are not allowed. This period will last through Aug. 31. An exception to this is if a college team has a home game. If so, the 48 hours before the event is a Quiet Period, with recruits able to come to the campus to visit in person.

ALA-Ironwood safety Marques Dorsey collected his fourth offer on July 28 from Hastings College. Dorsey (6-0, 165) and his Warriors' teammates have begun official practices in preparation for their opener on Aug. 23 at Morenci. Dorsey led ALAIW with 109 tackles last season while also intercepting five passes. For his efforts, he was rewarded with First Team honors for the 3A Central Region. In the classroom, Dorsey carries a 3.70 GPA. Hastings, located in Nebraska, had seven players from Arizona sign there in the last class. The Broncos play in the Great Plains Athletic Conference (NAIA) and went 5-6 in 2023. This year's slate begins on Aug. 31 with a home game against Peru State (Neb.).

Here's the rest of the offers since last the last update (7/25):

Washington lands Mountain Pointe safety Dillard-Allen

UPDATED: 8/7/24

Took a little late-summer vacation, so this is the catchup version of the commitments. It's been a busy couple of weeks with six Arizona seniors making their college decisions.

On July 26, Mountain Pointe safety Rylon Dillard-Allen announced his commitment by selecting a Washington Huskies cap at a ceremony inside the Pride Gymnasium.

The 5-11, 165-pound defensive back had narrowed his choices down to Texas A&M, Alabama, Washington, and UCLA. He was also recruited by the former staff at Arizona (now at Washington) and that had an effect on his choice.

"UW has a great football tradition, especially with DBs - Byron Murphy Jr., Budda Baker, and Trent McDuffie," Dillard-Allen said in a text message. "There was familiarity and comfortability with the coaching staff. UW is a top public and global university and Seattle is a great city to network and live in."

Dillard-Allen is a Top 300 prospect nationally by ESPN. He is versatile and can also play cornerback or in the slot. Dillard-Allen is on track to graduate in December and be and early enrollee.

Washington is one of the new members of the Big Ten Conference for this year. The Huskies are gearing up to celebrate with their fans with a mock game on Aug. 17 called B1G Husky Kickoff. It was a banner year in 2023 in the Huskies' last year of the Pac-12. UW (14-1) won the conference championship and the Sugar Bowl to advance to the National Championship Game. Washington kicks off this year on Aug. 31 at home against Weber State (Utah). The Big Ten Network will broadcast the game at 8 p.m.

One of the top long snappers in the country committed to the SEC when Mack Mulhern pledged to become a Florida Gator.

The 6-2, 220-pound specialist at Horizon had five scholarship offers from Power Four conferences. Mulhern is ranked No. 2 in the nation for the Class of 2025 by Kohl's Professional Camps.

"I really like the coaches and have always wanted to play in the SEC," Mulhern said in a text message. "I love the school and the facilities."

Mulhern adds to the many Arizona players that have moved on to the collegiate level to long snap. He works with Rausch Kicking and AZ Elite Long Snapping. He's been described by Kohl's as possessing the rare combination of power and control.

Florida has finished its first week of preseason camp as the Gators prepare for an Aug. 31 home opener against longtime rival Miami. It will be the Hurricanes' first visit to Gainesville in 16 years. The contest at the Swamp will be shown on ABC at 12:30 p.m. UF finished 5-7 last year, its third straight losing season.

Bryce Hevesy, an offensive tackle at Desert Mountain, made the commitment to play and serve at Army last Wednesday.

The 6-4, 295-pound lineman holds down a 3.80 GPA and played in the Open Division playoffs with his Wolves teammates last year. He made the trip to West Point the previous weekend for a recruiting event.

"The energy and the brotherhood for sure," Hevesy cited as reasons he selected the Black Knights in a text message. "I feel that West Point is a special place that can change my life in the long run forever."

Hevesy will be the first from his family to go into the military.

Army hit the practice field on July 30 to begin its preparations for the season. Last year, the Black Knights took the Commander-in-Chief's Trophy for the fourth time in seven seasons. The first of three scrimmages will take place this Saturday. Army begins its season on Friday, Aug. 30 with a home game at Michie Stadium against Lehigh (Pa.). The Black Knights finished 6-6 last year and will now play in the American Athletic Conference (FBS).

The fortunes for Paradise Valley turned around at midseason last year when quarterback Charlie LeVinus became eligible. After starting 1-4, the Trojans finished even up at 5-5 with the Brophy transfer leading them to four region victories. LeVinus is ready to play a full season for PVHS and then will be heading to the University of San Diego.

The 6-2, 190-pound signal caller averaged 303 passing yards (1,515 yds) and threw a total of 15 TD passes. LeVinus also ran the ball 59 times for a total of 279 yards. Remaining in the West and finding the right fit were important for him.

"I love the school," LeVinus said in a text message. "The location is so close to home and it has great academics. It's a beautiful city. I feel like the program really fits with my play style and the coaching staff is top notch. They are really focused on my development."

Centennial alum Eric Haney was one of three San Diego players named to the All-Pioneer Football League (FCS) Preseason Team. He was a First Team defensive performer last year for the Toreros. USD is set to kick off its season on Aug. 31 at home against Cal Poly. The Toreros went 4-7 in 2023.

Yuma Catholic cornerback Jeremiah Polk will be going to school and playing football in the Ivy League. He committed to Brown University in Providence last Sunday.

The 6-foot, 180-pound defensive back had 36 tackles, two interceptions, and two fumble recoveries for the Shamrocks, who went 13-1 and played in the 4A Conference championship. He totes a 3.80 GPA and is looking forward to the challenges of both the academics and the athletics.

"I couldn't pass up the opportunity to play Division I football and get an education I can't find anywhere else," Polk said in a text message.

In the preseason Media Poll, Brown is predicted to finish sixth in the eight-team Ivy League. The Bears are coming off a 5-5 season, their best overall record since 2015. Yale received the most total points in the poll. Brown will open its season on Sept. 21 at Georgetown (D.C.). A road game on Friday, Oct. 18 will get some media attention as the Bears will visit Princeton for a contest being shown on ESPNU (4 p.m.).

One of Polk's teammates at Yuma Catholic, Darryl Coleman Jr., also made his commitment on Sunday. The two-way athlete will be going to Utah Tech.

Coleman Jr. (6-foot, 175) plays defensive back and wide receiver for the Shamrocks. He will be a three-year starter for YC and had 49 catches for 740 yards and scored 12 touchdowns last season. On defense, which the Trailblazers are recruiting him, he made 36 tackles and intercepted two passes.

"The school itself is nice," Coleman Jr. said in a text message. "It definitely has stuff I was looking into majoring in (business). I like the state and town (St. George). What drove me to commit was their whole staff wanting me and seeing the good in me and taking the time to evaluate me and get to know me. Best way I can explain it is like building a family."

Utah Tech is currently in its camp to prepare for the season. The Trailblazers have six quarterbacks in camp, including a pair with Power Five experience (Iowa & Syracuse). Utah Tech kicks off its fifth season of Division I (FCS) play with a home game against Montana State. The Trailblazers play in the nine-team United Athletic Conference, where they finished 2-9 last year.

Sunnyslope returns its leader in touchdown receptions with Mack Kump (who had 12). On Monday, Kump announced he will be going to Colorado School of Mines.

The 5-10, 180-pound receiver not only carries a stellar 4.08 GPA, but he's a dual-sport athlete. After he was done racking up 535 yards on 41 catches (and grabbing a pair of picks on defense), Kump ran track in the spring competing in the 100, 200, and long jump. He ran an 11.01 in the 100 at the Glendale District championships and also ran in the 4x100 with his Viking teammates at the Division I AIA State meet.

"The commitment to playing the best football at their level and competing for championships year in and year out was really big for me," Kump said in a text message. "The academics also played a big role. After getting a degree from Mines, you have a really good chance at succeeding in any field of engineering. Those two factors were huge in my decision."

Colorado School of Mines is the preseason favorite in the coaches' poll in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (Div. II). The Orediggers (14-1 last season) were picked first on seven of the 10 ballots. Mines has gone a perfect 9-0 in league play in each of the past two years. The Orediggers reached the Division II title game in both seasons as well. Now, Mines is looking to win one. It begins on Thursday, Sept. 5 with a home game in Golden against West Texas A&M.
