Recap starts at the 2:00 minute mark
Impact Players
Eastmark 2023 QB Mack Molander (6'2, 215)
Molander was on fire Friday night. The senior 6'2 gun-slinger completed 15 of his 22 pass attempts for 296 yards and four total touchdowns (3 passing and 1 rushing). Molander was in complete control from the opening snap in this game, showing off tremendous accuracy, especially in timing intermediate routes with his WRs. Molander was efficient in play-action pass as he did a great job of carrying mesh with his RBs and finding his WRs in stride after the play-fake. Great performance from the Firebirds' captain.
Eastmark 2023 OLB Daunte Debbs (6'2, 205)
Debbs made a couple big-time plays for the Firebirds' defense in the 56-19 victory Friday night. The 205-pound outside linebacker stepped in front of a quick hitch early in the first quarter, snagging Eastmark's first interception of the night. Debbs continued to shine in coverage as he carried and ran stride-for-stride with an outside wheel-route to force an incompletion to stop a potential Sabino scoring drive. Debbs also finished with 6 total tackles on the night.
Eastmark 2023 Free Safety Kaden McCarty (5'9, 160)
I was really impressed with McCarty's game. He's a true centerfield Free Safety and he does a great job of roaming the secondary and robbing over the top of deep threats. He's also not afraid of filling the alley in running support either. This is a rangy DB who's a big-time playmaker in this Eastmark defense. McCarty finished with 3 total tackles and an interception that he grabbed in the end zone right before the first half ended.
Sabino 2024 QB Cameron Hackworth (5'9, 160)
Cameron Hackworth is an electrifying football player. The junior dual-threat QB made some really nice throws on a couple deep out-routes, but he did most of his damage with his legs Friday night. Hackworth showed off his blazing speed by taking off on a few broken plays, including a 64-yard scamper where he dusted everyone on the field for a TD. His elusiveness in the pocket matched with a good arm on the run, makes Hackworth a deadly QB to go up against for any opponent.
Sabino 2024 RB Mason Cade (5'9 175)
Cade sparked some life into Sabino when he took a 2nd Quarter hand-off and sprinted up the gut 80-yards for a Sabercats' touchdown. Cade finished with 100+ yards of rushing on the night.
Who to Watch
Eastmark 2023 WR Austin Johnston (6'1, 184)
Ask me who the #1 WR is in all of 3A and I'll point you to Austin Johnston. The senior WR was phenomenal in this game, as Johnston finished the night hauling in 10 receptions for 226 yards and a touchdown in the 56-19 win. Johnston also housed a punt return for a touchdown in the 2nd Half. Johnston excels at many different route patterns and creates separation immediately because of his explosive footwork off the snap. He breaks down well out of his breaks and he catches everything. This is a heck of a high school football player and college coaches need to pay him a visit during this season's evaluation period next month.
