Tied up at 14 at the half, the Hamilton Huskies defense blanked the Chandler Wolves offense in the 2nd Half, totaling up 10 sacks as a unit on the night. Senior QB and West Virginia commit, Nicco Marchiol, hit junior WR Tre Spivey for the go-ahead touchdown in the middle of the fourth quarter. Hamilton's ferocious defense made back-to-back stops late in the fourth quarter to halt the Chandler offense and clinch the 21-14 victory. With the win, the Huskies finish the regular season a perfect (10-0) for the first time since the 2011 season, thus locking up the #1 seed in the Open Division State Playoffs.
Impact Players
Hamilton's entire DL
From Left to Right: 2023 Chandler Davis - 2022 Russell (Deuce) Davis II - 2022 Dawson Hubbard
I knew this group was going to be good heading into the season, but THAT good? This unit gets after it on every snap. These are true sideline-to-sideline football players and they make their presence felt on every play. They play tough, fast, physical, and play to the whistle with relentless effort. Fundamentally, they're really well coached. Hamilton's DL coach, Parker Barrett, has done a phenomenal job with this group. They accounted for 9 of the 10 sacks on the night. They are a MAJOR reason why Hamilton won this football game. Enjoy all of the highlights below.
Hamilton 2023 RB Logan Krei (5-10, 180)
Krei had one of the best runs that I've seen all season long. Trailing 14-7 in the 2nd Quarter, Krei tied up the game when he took a delayed sprint draw up the gut, breaking through to the second and third levels with speed, and absolutely trucking Chandler's safety as he crossed the end zone for a touchdown. Krei finished with a game-high 98 rushing yards, averaging 8.2 yards per carry on the night. Yet another impressive performance from the junior tailback.
Hamilton 2023 WR Tre Spivey (6-4, 180)
Hamilton needed another WR not named Christian Anaya to step up in this game, and Tre Spivey came through and delivered. Spivey hauled in the game-winning TD pass in the 4th Quarter, and it came on a play where he was completely covered. Spivey did a tremendous job of going up strong for the ball and snagging it at it's highest point over blanket coverage by the opposing DB. Spivey has really improved this season, especially with his footwork off the line to create separation early-on in his routes. Spivey finished the night hauling in 4 catches for 45 yards and a TD. Don't be surprised if Spivey balls out this post-season.
Chandler 2022 DE Amar Elmore (6-2, 245)
Really liked what I saw from the Senior DL. Elmore was active in making plays in the backfield. He showed good power on a few of his bull rush moves and he showed off fast, active hands off the snap. Elmore scooped up a Hamilton fumble near the Chandler goal line that prevented a Huskies score.
Chandler WR Kyion Grayes (6-1, 170)
Grayes dusted a Hamilton DB for a 50+ yard TD on the very first Chandler drive of the game. Grayes isn't just one of the best WRs in the state, he's one of the best overall football players. This is a player who's HUNGRY for another ring. I fully expect these two teams to face off again in the Open State playoffs and I know Grayes will be looking forward to that matchup.
