Trailing 16-0 early in the first quarter, the Williams Field Blackhawks offense ignited, scoring 23 unanswered points. After going up two scores in the 2nd Half, the Blackhawks were able to hold off the Desert Ridge Jaguars in a 37-35 shootout win at home, moving the Blackhawks to (6-2) on the year. Class of 2023 QB CJ Tiller tossed three touchdowns in the big victory, two of them thrown to 4-Star 2023 WR Kyler Kasper. Tiller now has 13 passing touchdowns on the season.

Impact Players

Williams Field 2023 LB Faimafili Snuka (6-1, 230)

I told Williams Field Head Coach, Steve Campbell, in the postgame that I was pretty upset that he was hiding this athlete from me. Snuka is a tank in the middle of that Blackhawks defense. He's a downhill attacker and a violent tackler. Snuka had three sacks in the big win. When college coaches come to Arizona for this year's eval period, they need to stop in to Williams Field to see Snuka in person.

Williams Field 2023 WR Kyler Kasper (6-5, 195)

Kasper is already one of the top prospects in the state for the 2023 Class; Kasper proved that ranking once again last night. Kasper looked unguardable at times yesterday. The 6'5 Junior WR hauled in two deep passes for touchdowns, both were 50 + yard plays. Kasper has really improved in his route running, especially with intermediate routes. Even with his large frame, he's very quick out of his breaks and he does a great job coming back to the ball. This is a WR who will win almost all 50/50 balls, now he's polishing up the rest of his game. Really fun to watch in person.

Williams Field 2022 S Josh Sovereign (6-0, 185)

One of the top defensive players on the Blackhawks team - Sovereign does a great job coming up for run force and he's solid in coverage. Sovereign locked up Desert Ridge's slot receivers well last night, coming up with a few pass breakups on crucial third downs. Sovereign is one of the 6A leaders in interceptions with four on the year.

Desert Ridge 2022 CB Kevin Miniefield II (6-0, 170)

Miniefield was a major reason why Desert Ridge jumped out to a 16 point lead to start this game. On the first play from scrimmage, the Senior cornerback picked off a Williams Field pass, catching the pass right over the top of the receiver. On the following possession, Miniefield stayed in the flat and jumped an out-route, tipping it to one of his LBs for the interception. Disciplined eyes and quick acceleration out of his breaks, Miniefield has proven his ballhawking abilities multiple times throughout the year.

Desert Ridge  2022 RB Jordan Wilson (5-10, 190)

If Jordan Wilson doesn't get hurt early in the second half, I might be writing an entirely different game story here. I'm a huge fan of Jordan Wilson. The Senior RB runs extremely hard and does a great job of keeping his shoulders square. Wilson keeps his legs churning through contact and he doesn't dance around in the running lanes. Wilson had two 1st Half touchdowns in this game, before leaving in the 3rd Quarter with an injury.

Who To Watch

Desert Ridge 2023 TE Jacob Condie (6-3, 230)

Jacob Condie has really impressed this season. He has great hands and does well creating separation by using his frame to shield defenders. He came down with a phenomenal grab in the corner of the end zone for a touchdown late in the fourth quarter, snagging the fade pass over a defensive back - all while getting a foot down in bounds. Tremendous hand-eye coordination and body control on that play.
