Brophy moves to No. 1 in the nation

The headline on the press release was pretty straightforward. It read: Brophy College Prep (AZ) No. 1 in Easton Sports Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Poll. Their first in-season Top 25 high school poll had the Broncos moving from preseason No. 7 to No. 1. Sliding from the top spot to No. 2 is Flanaghan High School, Fl., the 2-time defending 6A State Champs from the Sunshine State. Unseating those guys is no small accomplishment. Their 2007 starting lineup features eight seniors, four D1 signees, and one of the top southpaw pitchers in the nation in DJ Swatscheno (0.89 ERA, 131 K's, 79 IP). The highest ranking an Arizona team has ever attained in their poll was a No. 6 by Horizon High in 1999. The No. 3 spot is presently held by the defending New Jersey state titlists, Seton Hall Prep. Which will surely be the subject of a lot of national attention today.
Today is the day the other major poll comes out, which is published by the staff of Baseball America and the National High School Baseball Coaches Association. In their last bi-weekly poll, Seton Hall is ranked No. 1, and Brophy Prep sits at No. 2. In that last poll, Brophy moved from preseason No. 4 to No. 2, and Horizon High (AZ) had the biggest jump (No. 24 to No. 8). The problem is that Seton Hall still has not started their season. Our other Top Ten friends from Cali, TX, and Fl., are also three weeks into their season. How could anyone justify leaving Seton Hall (0-0) in the top spot, with Brophy Prep (AZ) off to a sizzling 11-0 start? It should be interesting.
