A recap of the event continues with the underclassmen.
Top 6 performers at the showcase (in random order) for the 2015 class.
Alexis Delgado (Tolleson, 5'6'', G) - No one has came farther than Delgado as she only started playing competitive basketball in 7th grade. She is a hard worker, extremely coachable and she plays with moxy. Look for Delgado to emerge as one of the best playmakers in the state.
Armani Hawkins (Mesa Mountain View, 5-foot-10, CG) - One of the most gifted scorers on the west coast and likely an eventual top 100 prospect in the nation. She is already one of the most skilled players in the state regardless of class. Her cross over, pull up jumper is virtually unstoppable.
Kristine Anigwe (Desert Vista, 6-foot-5, C) - Big time shot blocker and rebounder. Great wingspan, length and she is a very good athlete. Anigwe understands the post game and she displayed a variety of moves at the showcase. Tons of potential.
Quynne Huggins (Youngker, 5-foot-9, CG) - Showed that she can score from anywhere on the court. She is athletic and should become a very good defender as she continues to get stronger. Nice all around player.
Sabrina Haines (Mesa Mountain View, 5-foot-8, PG) - Plays with extreme confidence and she makes solid decisions when she has the ball. She is currently on track to become a player with no weakness in her game. She plays the game for all the right reasons. Good floor general, as well.
Saylair Grandon (Westview, 5-foot-10, SF) - The most physical player in the class. Due to her combination of strength and quickness, she can defend any position very effectively. She has become an elite player.
Best of the rest
Aaliyah Torres (Tolleson, 6-foot-0, PF) - A deceptively quick power forward. She wants the ball down low on every possession and uses her size on smaller players. She is a tenacious competitor and has lots of upside with continued development.
Andrea Goulette (Arcadia, 5-foot-7, PG) - Showed that she understands the point guard position and she has good leadership skills. Court vision and awareness are strengths of her game. She is one to watch as she continues to develop.
Ariah Evans (St. Mary's, 5-foot-11, SF) - She has really improved her perimeter skills since last evaluating her play. She was very active on the boards and she did a good job scoring in both showcase games.
Ashely Burns (Desert Vista, 5-foot-1, PG) - A small lead guard who plays with a lot of heart and desire. She can apply effective full court pressure on some of the best point guards out there. She is quick and can handle the ball well.
Celeste Chism (Ironwood Ridge, 5-foot-5, CG) - Very effective shooter, evident by her winning the long distance shootout contest. Her best attribute may be her effort and hustle. She has a good motor and she moves very well without the ball.
Kyra Brinsfield (Flowing Wells, 5-foot-6, PG) - Silky smooth with a soft shooting touch. She works hard on and off the court and she has a good skill set. A solid ball handler and a rising prospect from Southern Arizona.
Lauren Ames (Valley Vista, 6-foot-0, C) - She moves well and is active in the paint. She has good size and provides a physical presence. She was a rebounding machine on the defensive end. Played well in both games.
Lizzet Cantu (Tolleson, 5-foot-6, SG) - She shot lights out in both games. She hit six straight threes in her first showcase game to break the game open for her team. She will see her stock rise with more consistency but it is clear that she is one of the better shooters in the class.
Megan Looney (St. Mary's, 5-foot-10, PF) - A smart post player who utilizes her size well on offense. She did an outstanding job in boxing out for defensive rebounds. She should become a solid contributor for the Knights in the upcoming seasons.
Ronesha Fields (Buena, 5-foot-2, CG) - Super quick guard who plays the passing lanes well. She is a very effective on-the-ball defender and she is probably better than anyone at getting her hands on loose balls. Crafty and scrappy player.
Tate Tsingine (Tuba City, 5-foot-10, SF) - One of the top prospects from Northern Arizona. She has a good feel for the game and she does a lot of the little things that a coach appreciates.
2016 Player evaluations
Although the event was for sophomores, junior and seniors, we allowed several of the top freshmen to enter the showcase. Here are some of the top freshmen performers:
Alexa Ram (Ironwood Ridge, 5-foot-9, CG) - Good fundamentals and solid ball handler for such a young player. Showed a nice jumper as well.
Maya Moore (Pinnacle, 5-foot-8, Combo Guard) - Athletic wing player that played well against older players. She excels in the transition game.
Adriana Zelaya (Millennium, 6-foot-1, SF) - Smooth player who has the potential to be very good before she leaves high school. She does a lot of things well and she is just beginning to tap into her potential. She could emerge as the top ranked player of the class.
